Online year-end campaign for a good cause
Why now?
Around the turn of the year, it is the custom to give and share, to offer presents to those you hold dear.
Moreover, this is also the period of the winter solstice: the shortest day of the year and the longest night. From then on, the light returns and the days get longer again.
A solstice or equinox, they are good times to choose and affirm new resolutions.
In the yoga tradition, we perform 108 sun salutations to empower those intentions and direct positive energy in the right direction.
Moreover … this is also the period when my birthday falls.
108 Sun Salutations for a Good Cause
So I thought: I’ll do something special this year.
I’m going to do 108 sun salutations on the threshold of my 61st birthday from my yoga studio on Thursday 22 December! I’m doing it in the form of an online event that can be followed live on Facebook and on Zoom so that anyone who wants to can join in for a number of sun salutations.
And I will allow anyone who wants to make a donation to charity. You can make a donation via the buttons at the bottom of this page.
To whom do the proceeds go?
The entire proceeds of this action go to the ASBL Ever’y Cat, a Brussels-based non-profit organisation that has been working tirelessly for many, many years with incredible energy in the field to help the fate of street cats in 4 of the Brussels communes: 1140 Evere, 1030 Schaarbeek, 1130 Haren and 1000 Brussels City. The neglected and sometimes sick cats are caught in the streets, vacant lots or empty houses where they roam. They are temporarily taken in, cared for, sterilised. The ASBL then provides permanent placement of the cats with adoptive families according to a watertight adoption procedure, or releases the sterilised feral cats.
Why Ever’y Cat?
I chose Ever’y Cat for this first opportunity because I myself have felt a great affinity with cats all my life and have adopted several stray cats from the streets myself. I am so keen to do my bit, however modestly, to help alleviate the suffering of stray cats in Brussels. And also to send a signal that the compulsory sterilisation of cats is now to be taken seriously. Pets are not objects, but sentient beings with a character of their own. Adopting a pet is a commitment for 15 years or more.
