Yin Yoga Thursday Evening

On 21/12/2017 | 8:15 pm - 9:15 pm

Yin yoga is a quiet, gentle (yin) kind of yoga that has a calming, soothing and cooling effect. Yin yoga has a nourishing and strengthening effect on the connective tissues of the body: the fascia, the ligaments and the tendons. The postures are held for a relatively long duration. Yin yoga is ideal for those people who wish to remain as flexible and mobile as possible with advancing age. It is also an ideal kind of yoga to end the day in a relaxed manner and to prepare for an excellent night of sleep.

Yoga practical

Do arrive in time for your class, five or ten minutes early so as to respect the class and the concentration of your fellow students. In the smaller class room in Saint-Gilles, those who arrive too late will no longer be allowed in.

Dress code:
Wear some loose, pleasant feeling clothing without constraints. Bring a sweater to keep you warm during relaxation.

Yoga mats:
In all class rooms yoga mats are present. You can also bring your own yoga mat. Here’s some advice for those who would buy their own yoga mat. Do not save money on quality or sustainability of your mat. Cheap yoga mats wear out very, very quickly and will need to be rapidly replaced.
The most important characteristic of a yoga mat are its anti-skid properties, so you get a good grip and you will not slide or fall during practice. Though this is less of a concern in Yin yoga, where there are very few standing postures.
A yoga mat of acceptable quality will cost around 20 euros. In my experience, the best yoga mats are the ones from Manduka, they cost about 85 euros. In between these two examples there is a wide choice, with luckily more and more manufacturers who produce their mats in a sustainable way.

Bath towel:
It is a good idea to bring a towel to the class. Good to absorb the sweat, if any. And folded, it will give you a handy support in some of the yoga postures.

Medical conditions:
Always inform the teacher when you have a medical condition that necessitates extra prudence, or when you are hurt or are recovering from hurting yourself. With conditions such as a high blood pressure or glaucoma you better avoid the inverted postures.
Pregnancy and periods will give you temporary limitations. We do our best to guarantee your safety. But please consider that you yourself are responsible for your well being and that you are the guardian of your own physical limits.
A private consult for yoga by appointment is possible to determine your personal profile. This consultation can help you amongst others to make the right choices for your yoga practice.

Handies and smart phones will be switched off at the beginning of the class.

Food:
Avoid eating within two hours before the start of the class.

Drinking:
It is very important to drink sufficient water after the class, because yoga practice has a detoxifying effect. However, avoid drinking during the class.
